GoogleSyndication
After buying Blogger,
Google launched their 'Content-Targeted AdWords' program.
Google would insert their AdWords on the weblogs hosted
at Blogger. There are thousands of them, and you can distinguish them because their domain is '*.blogspot.com'.
In the end of february 2003, some of Blooger's users (as Michael)
detected that a piece of script was inserted on their weblogs HTML pages:
<script language='JavaScript' src='http://pagead.googlesyndication.com/ca/show_ads.js'></script>
If you analyze the script of
http://pagead.googlesyndication.com/ca/show_ads.js,
you notice that pagead.googlesyndication.com server (created by Google)
is called from blogspot.com webpages.
This server returns a piece of code generating a 'banner' -but made with text words- like this (we've inserted
the script on this page):
Depending on the website hosting the AdWords, Google shows a kind
of ads or another, because visitors are interested in different areas.
So, by targeting advertising, Google tries to increase the punch.
For instance, at the weblog mediaTIC (devoted
to tech topics), you can watch Adwors related to electronic stuff. You can check it at this
link.
If you pay attention to the URL, change the last value, and replace it by another weblog hosted
at Blogger, you can notice that other advertising is shown, depending of weblog's subject.
- rapmastersports.blogspot.com (Sports stuff)
- websecurity.blogspot.com (Internet Security stuff)
And not only with Blogger websites (*.blogspot.com), wich are the first to test this advertising.
You can insert the name of your website, and check wich kind of AdWords Google would insert on
your pages.
By defect, if no results are found, charity organizations ads are shown (Red Cross, Cancer Societies, ...).
And if you insert a word, Google will return the Adwords shown in the classic
results.
